Ha. Today I was surfing people.com for glimpses of Oscar wear, which I love to loathe… and loathe to love- when I noticed an article describing some of the goodies J-Lo has been accumulating for her new twins (how freaking lucky is this chick!).

Read the comments. Whoah.

I guess I can understand the jealousy, frustration and anger- the economy is shit right now. People are losing their homes and can’t afford proper health and dental care, the infrastructure of our country is collapsing, businesses large and small are struggling, six year olds in China are making our clothing and housewares out of lead and super retailers are outsourcing our jobs and putting our mom & pop shops out of business. The honest guy is having trouble making a buck because money-hungry cheaters are suing the pants off of anybody and everybody- skyrocketing insurance rates, and because our big American Made businesses are moving to Mexico and Japan. Of course I could go on listing the woes of the average American. We have a big fat mess to clean up.

But I must say it- c’mon people, who do you think is really responsible for this mess we now find ourselves in? Maybe if ya’ll weren’t buying all that Made In Taiwan “official J-Lo” crap from Walmart on credit cards you can’t afford to pay she wouldn’t be so rich and you wouldn’t be so broke! Maybe if we weren’t electing imbiciles who can’t add 2 billion plus 2 billion, you wouldn’t be so broke! Oh.

Maybe I’m ridiculous for having my say, but it makes me mad that nobody made the point that overindulging of any kind in this day and age, knowing what we now know about global warming, is not just ridiculous but inhumane! The manufacturing of all of that chemically laced stuff is KILLING OUR PENGUINS. And our Polar Bears. And probably rendering our children infertile or inherently carcinogenic. I agree, J-Lo should be ashamed. But not because she isn’t buying inexpensive onesies at Walmart and giving all of her hard earned cash to people who didn’t earn it, people who made her rich by buying what she has to sell, people who all had the same opportunities she did, if not the talent. Instead she should be ashamed because she has the money it takes to be able to make an enduring statement with her wealth. I would have killed to see J-Lo’s new nursery decked out in organic handwoven hemp, manufactured right here in America by adults. And her baby twins sporting recycled clothing. Ha.

I guess I shouldn’t talk. I’ve spent a good many years of my adult life buying ridiculous material possessions that I can’t afford, and shopping at super retailers. I can pretend to be innocent but I still live above my means financially. I can claim to have seen the light but the truth of the matter is that I will probably continue shopping at Walmart for some time to come. Organic, handmade, recycled shit is expensive.

But I promise that I will continue to work daily at changing my ways. I have been enlightened. Coming soon: a post about my new homemade cloth menstrual pads. I know you can’t wait.
